Jim Post was a gifted folk singer, songwriter, and performer who captured the spirit of an entire generation. Rising to fame in the 1960s with his duo Friend and Lover, Post's breakout hit "Reach Out of the Darkness" became a defining anthem of peace and unity during a turbulent era. Known for his passionate voice and genuine lyrics, Jim had a way of reaching deep into the hearts of his listeners. His impact on the folk music scene was not just about the songs he sang, but about the sense of community and hope he inspired.

Beyond his musical achievements, Jim Post embraced a second act as a beloved storyteller, famously performing one-man shows as Mark Twain. Blending humor, history, and heartfelt wisdom, he captivated audiences with his unforgettable portrayals. Throughout his career, from the coffee houses of Chicago to theaters across the country, Post remained dedicated to the art of meaningful connection. His legacy lives on through his recordings, his performances, and the countless lives he touched with his music and storytelling.

He hung out with Janis Joplin and Studs Terkel, performed with stars from country great Eddy Arnold to rock giant Cream, been recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But this Charlottes Web regular from Galena, Il., who continues to draw enthusiastic audiences after more than four decades, remains down-to-earth.

In the past 30 years, among other things, Post has recorded more than 20 CDs; written and performed two acclaimed one-man shows; written several childrens books with Janet, his wife of 17 years who also plays cello and piano for The Laughing River and helped to create and promote a successful, musical, phoneme-based reading program for children with developmental difficulties.
